Welcome

Totara Class, Term 3 2015

Kia Ora whanau and welcome back to Term 3. My name is Anna Tollestrup and I am very excited to be leading Totara class for the rest of the year. I have had a very busy holiday moving down to the beautiful Waikato from Auckland and finishing my post graduate studies. I can’t wait to get to know your child and hear about all the amazing things your family have been up to over the holidays.

I come from a low decile school in Manurewa, South Auckland, where I have been teaching throughout the junior school. I have just completed my Post Graduate Certificate in Digital and Collaborative learning, where we explored 21st century thinking skills and future focused learning concepts.

This term we will be continuing to explore science as we lead up to our Science Fair in Week 4. We will be experimenting with different solids and liquids and looking at the relationships between them. We will then be moving onto technology later in the term and will celebrate with a fashion show at the end of the term.

Coming up this term is also student led conferences, this is the chance where your child will share their learning journey with you and celebrate their successes.

I have an open door policy and I am happy to meet to discuss your child’s learning. It is best to pop in before or after school to book a time if you would like to discuss any class matters. Or else you can contact me at tollestrupa@hautapu.school.nz I will endeavour to reply to emails as soon as I possibly can.

Blog- I have set up a class blog where you can check out our amazing learning from the week. You can follow us at http://hautaputotara15.blogspot.co.nz/. Feel free to leave us a comment and share with family and friends.

Homework- Your child will be sent home a reader every night. Please listen to their amazing reading and ask them questions about what they have read. Get them to retell the story or describe the main character/setting in detail. Support your child to sound out those tricky words and reread the sentence so it makes sense. Please continue to encourage your child to do 15mins of mathletics every night as this helps them to develop their basic fact knowledge.

I cannot wait to get stuck into this busy term. If you have any questions or would like to put a face to the name please feel free to pop in at any time.

Kind regards

Anna Tollestrup
